Benefits of Eating a Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

Eating a smoothie bowl for breakfast, or any meal of the day, is a great way to consume a myriad of superfoods in one sitting. There are so many benefits to adding this smoothie bowl to your recipe inventory.

Full of Protein When I make a smoothie or smoothie bowl, I typically add powdered protein to my recipe. Why do I add protein? Protein is a macronutrient that our bodies need for cellular growth and repair–it is a crucial building block in our bodies. Adding protein to these smoothie bowls helps keep me fuller longer and supports my busy lifestyle.

Full of Fiber Just like protein, fiber is a carbohydrate and a key macronutrient we need for our bodies to function properly. Fiber is also crucial to a healthy digestive system. The American Heart Association recommends 25-30 grams of fiber in our diets each day, and a medium banana has about 3 grams of fiber in it.

Antioxidants What are antioxidants? They are molecules produced in your body and in foods that help protect against free radicals–other molecules that can cause cell damage and be potentially harmful to our bodies. Berries, especially strawberries are a great food source of antioxidants, and are sometimes referred to as a superfood.

Maintain Blood Sugar There are multiple benefits to maintaining a low blood sugar. When our blood sugar spikes, we are prone to energy spikes, thirst and hunger. When our blood sugar is maintained and kept low, we can prevent energy, thirst and hunger spikes. Both strawberries and bananas can help us maintain a low blood sugar.

Ingredients in a Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

Protein Powder of Choice There are so many different brands and types of protein powder on the market, I encourage you to find a protein powder that fits you. I like to use a protein that is easily digestible, has clean and minimal ingredients and has a decent amount of protein per scoop. I like to consume vegan, pea protein. I typically purchase SB Organics vanilla protein.

Milk of Choice Any milk will work in this strawberry banana smoothie bowl. If you’re dairy-free, don’t fret. Using almond, coconut or oat milk in this recipe works just fine.

Strawberries Fresh or frozen, both types of strawberries work well in this recipe. For convenience and cost purposes, I typically purchase frozen berries for my smoothies. You can also buy strawberries fresh, wash, and freeze for future use.

Bananas Just like with strawberries, fresh or frozen bananas work well in this recipe! If you’re going to freeze bananas from fresh, remove them from their peel, slice them, and place them in a baggie in the freezer.

Ice If you’re using frozen fruit in this smoothie bowl recipe, then ice may not be necessary, depending on desired consistency.

Optional Add-Ins & Toppings You can increase the flavor and nutrients in this smoothie bowl recipe in multiple ways by adding different toppings or mix-ins.

    • Add granola on the top of your smoothie bowl to add more carbs and fiber. Try this easy homemade peanut butter granola recipe!
    • Ground flax or chia seeds are two more add-ins to mix into your smoothie that can increase fiber, aid in digestion and increase the nutrient value of this recipe.
