What do I Need to Make Dutch Oven Pulled Chicken?
There is very little effort, equipment, and ingredients needed to make this flavorful dutch oven pulled chicken!
Dutch Oven
This pulled chicken recipe goes together so easy because you throw all your ingredients together in your dutch oven, pop it in the oven, and let it cook while you work on other things!
If you’ve never used a dutch oven before, or just received one, and want an easy recipe, this is a great recipe to start with.
Using a dutch oven for your cooking is a great time saver for you. I use my dutch oven often on recipes that I need to just set and forget. I have this Lodge Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven, and it’s 6 quarts, so it’s fairly big.
Dutch ovens come in many sizes however, and you can find the size that's right for you!
Chicken Breast or Chicken Thighs
You can make pulled chicken with either boneless skinless chicken breast or boneless skinless chicken thighs.
We personally prefer to use chicken thighs because the meat on chicken thighs is a little fattier and has more flavor. However, each cut of chicken will work perfectly for this recipe.
Chicken Stock or Water
Adding a little bit of liquid to your dutch oven is necessary to keep your meat moist and juicy while it cooks. Chicken stock adds the most depth and flavor to this shredded chicken, however, if you just have water on hand, that will work as well.
Seasonings
To keep this dutch oven chicken recipe fairly neutral, I like to keep my seasonings simple. I use plenty of salt and pepper on this chicken, then I also add garlic powder and onion powder, and that’s it!
